More than 70% of Japanese people want to postpone the Tokyo Olympics / Day

The results of the survey show that 39.2% of respondents want the Olympic Games to be canceled altogether, but 32.8% hope that the four-year-old sporting event will be postponed again.

Only 24% of respondents would not object to the Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer. The vast majority, or 92.6%, fear that the number of Covid-19-infected people in Japan could rise again as a result of the Olympics.

About 60% of the Japanese population indicated that they were not satisfied with the pace of vaccination, but 36.5% of respondents did not object.

Data released by the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare on Friday shows that only 0.4% of all Japanese people have received all the necessary Covid-19 vaccines.

The government led by Prime Minister Josihides Suga on Monday extended a partially declared state of emergency in three Japanese prefectures – Tokyo, Kyoto and Okinawa. The number of Covid-19 cases in these regions has recently increased.

Similar measures were taken last week in Osaka, Miyagi and Hyogo prefectures.

Due to the spread of Covid-19, the route of the Olympic torch relay race in the western prefecture of Osaka has also been changed.
