Despite years of education, there are still misconceptions and myths about prostate cancer screening and prostate cancer.
Vienna (OTS) – The Austrian Cancer Aid, together with Austria’s urologists, has collected the most frequent fake news and produced amusing videos from it under the direction of Gerald Fleischhacker. This is not only intended to provide information, but above all to call for an early diagnosis check-up once more.
“Unfortunately, we men are still ignorant of precaution,” explains Krebshilfe President Univ.-Prof. Dr. Paul Sevelda the motives for the action. “Stress, too many appointments and, above all, misconceptions such as ‘it always only affects the other person anyway’ or ‘I’m healthy anyway’ lead to the fact that we do not take early diagnosis examinations – or do it too late.”
It is precisely these misconceptions that persist. “In our work, we urologists keep hearing – more or less – absurd excuses about prostate cancer early detection, but also about treatment.”
, reports Univ. Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Horninger, President of the Austrian Society for Urology. “Even if we constantly educate people about it, this fake news persists.”
Reason enough to dispel the myths and fake news about prostate cancer as part of this year’s Loose Tie campaign. “We have collected the most frequent false reports from our daily experiences and staged them with a wink”
, explains the President of the Professional Association of Austrian Urologists Dr. Karl Dorfinger. “With these videos we not only want to educate, but also encourage men to do early detection.”
Video series “Fake News Prostate Cancer”
Once again, it is thanks to Gerald Fleischhacker’s commitment that the collected fake news about men’s health and prostate cancer was presented in an amusing way and with an ironic wink. “We owe Gerald Fleischhacker not only the script and direction of the videos, but also the support of many of his colleagues, who of course made themselves available”
, Krebshilfe managing director Mag. Martina Löwe is pleased about the great commitment. Together with doctors from the Austrian Society for Urology and the Professional Association of Austrian Urologists, Angelika Niedetzky, Gery Seidl, Aida Loos, Günther Lainer, Verena Scheitz, Gerald Fleischhacker, Eva Pölzl and Norbert Oberhauser clear up the most common mistakes.
