This is definitely up to him in this case, he knows Tierney has had a lot of injury issues, but failing to get a proper left back for backup is a failure on his part.

Tierney is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and has been one of Arsenal’s best and most consistent players this season.
With Arsenal still in the running for the top four in the Premier League and with a chance to win the Europa League this season, it’s a serious blow to the Gunners.
Granit Xhaka played as a left back against the Blades tonight, and while the Swiss international did well in that role, the fact remains that he is a midfielder by trade.
