Elan Béarnais takes advantage of a shooting window against Strasbourg – Basket Landes and Tarbes Gespe Bigorre are preparing for the playoffs of the Women’s League …

If the Pau remain penultimate in the standings, this victory against the 3rd gives hope. The Landaises and the Bigourdanes are fixed on the schedule for the final phase which begins on May 4.

Pau-Strasbourg (73-69): they were able to seize their chance!

This success against one of the champions of the championship will do a lot of good to Elan Béarnais embarked on an intense marathon for his survival in the elite. Clearly, the Alsatians committed a peach of pride by taking their hosts from above, as the former Palois, Léo Cavalière, acknowledged. And it is all the merit of the Béarnais to have been able to enjoy it.

We will have to confirm this Tuesday in Roanne to get out of the red zone. There will then remain 15 matches to ensure maintenance: Pau-Levallois (April 17), Villeurbanne-Pau (April 20), Pau-Le Portel (April 27), Le Mans-Pau (May 1), Pau-Dijon (May 4) ), Cholet-Pau (May 9), Nanterre-Pau (May 20), Pau-Villeurbanne (May 22), Le Portel-Pau (May 25), Pau-Gravelines (May 29), Pau-Limoges (June 3) , Pau-Chalon (June 6), Boulazac-Pau (June 9), Pau-Cholet (June 12), Gravelines-Pau (June 15).

After a laborious first half (31-34), Eric Bartechecky’s men recovered well in the 3rd quarter (26-13). Alternating between the good and the less good, they were able to resist the return of visitors and find the necessary resources to ensure victory.

The Elan will be able to test its new American point guard, Jay Threatt, who has just arrived and is expected to make his debut against Roanne.

Women’s League on the way to the playoffs

Provided that the late matches can be played before May 2, the LFB has unveiled the rules of the playoffs which will bring together the first 8 teams.

The quarter-finals will be played in two matches (home and away) with a second leg on the field of the highest ranked at the end of the regular season).

  • Mardi 4 may: 8e-1er; 7e-2e; 6e-3e; 5e-4e
  • Saturday 8 May: 1er-8e; 2e-7e; 3e-6e; 4e-5e

If the classification should stop there Basket Landes (2nd) would be opposed to Tarbes Gespe Bigorre (7th). But the Landaises should rather find Roche Vendée or Landerneau, while the Bigourdanes will probably have to do with Bourges or Lyon.

A draw is allowed on these matches. The team which scores the most points over the two matches qualifies for the next round.

These quarters will be followed by a Final 4, with knockout matches in a single venue (room of the highest ranked participating team)

  • Thursday May 13, semi-finals: winner 1-8 against winner 4-5; winner 2-7 against winner 3-6.
  • Saturday May 15: final

If the regular season cannot end by May 2, 2021 at the latest, the LFB playoffs will not take place and the team ranked first at the end of the regular season will be crowned French LFB 2021 champion.

Finally, and according to the decision taken by the Steering Committee of the FFBB on December 11, 2020, any team not able to play will be forfeited for the match; if both teams are unable to attend, the highest ranked team at the end of the regular season will qualify.
