The stomach contents of a shot alligator in South Carolina, United States, provides a glimpse into the species’ eating habits. A butcher who cut his belly found five dog tokens and several turtle shells, among other things, the local news station writes WCSC.
The alligator walked on private property and, according to Ned McNeely, was a threat, after which the hunter shot the beast. He then took him to Kenneth Cordray’s, a butcher who more often turns dead alligators into consumer meat. Exceptionally, the butcher cut open the beast’s stomach to find out what was inside.
In addition to the dog tokens and tortoise shells, he also found a bullet shell and a spark plug. On one of the dog tokens a telephone number could be read, which the butcher called. The man who answered said that he had lost his hunting dog on the bank of the same river that this alligator had crawled out of 24 years ago. They have not determined the exact age of the beast. The alligator was 3.7 meters long and weighed more than 200 pounds.
