Microsoft negotiates acquisition of Nuance Communications technology for more than 13 billion euros – O Jornal Económico

Microsoft is in advanced negotiations to acquire Nuance Communications, a technological partner of Bill Gates’ company specializing in artificial intelligence. This is the second big deal to involve Microsoft in less than a month, after the US giant’s interest in Discord was reported.

According to Bloomberg, the deal could be closed for an amount of around 16 billion dollars (13.4 billion euros). The amount in question represents a 23% appreciation compared to the value of Nuance’s bonds ($ 45.58) in the last stock exchange session.

The company that laid the foundation for the technology that enabled Apple to launch the Siri voice assistant is a pioneer in the field of artificial intelligence, having already appreciated 3.4% this year. Nuance’s market value amounts to 13 billion dollars (10.9 billion euros), well below the almost two billion dollars (1.6 billion euros) that Microsoft is worth.

Nuance has been working in partnership with Microsoft since 2019 on voice recognition and processing tools, especially on the Dragon Medical platform. This platform allows doctors to record the conversation with patients and enter the information collected in an electronic record that supports the medical decision.

If the purchase of Nuance Communications takes place, it will be the second largest deal closed by Microsoft since it bought LinkedIn for $ 26.2 billion in 2016.

Bloomberg says that Microsoft, currently led by Satya Nadella, has maintained a very active procurement policy. Since 2011, the American technology company has acquired Skype, the social network LinkedIn, the open source platform GitHub and the company that created the game Minecraft.
