HK Dukla Michalovce hockey players advanced to the semifinals of the Kaufland play-off Tipos extra league 2020/2021 for the first time, thus completing the trio of HK Poprad, HKM Zvolen and Slovan Bratislava. Michalovce won on Sunday in the sixth match of the quarterfinals on the ice of HK Dukla Trenčín 2: 1 after extra time and in the whole series they triumphed 4: 2 in matches.

There are four best teams in the semifinals after the basic part. Zvolen with Slovan and Michalovce with Poprad will play in the final.

The sixth match of the series started sharply. Trenčians already had the advantage of a power play at the beginning. In a good position he found himself on the left circle of Berisha, but his shot flew right next to the goal. On the other hand, Lalancette got into a break situation. His attempt bounced off Karjalainen’s concrete. The game had a fast pace and long minutes were played without interruption. With 9 minutes played, Korhonen could have brought this one home for Korhonen as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. Active play from both sides continued. The high forward prevented both teams from a quiet pass. The first third did not bring a goal and was played quickly – in just 27 minutes.
The high-stakes match continued in the middle of the game. With 22 minutes played, Bartánusovo came in from the right and could have had the tying goal, but the defenders successfully repelled the attack by FC. Karjalainen puck stopped with concrete. Two minutes later, McCormack fired, and after a rebounded puck in close range, Korhonen failed. And so the opening goal fell on the opposite side. Paukovček’s flow went right next to the pole, Beták returned it in front of the goal to send him into the net in a confusing situation. The guests added to the turnaround and began to push even harder into the offensive third. He had a balance in the middle of the match at the Regenda hockey stick. However, he did not hit the goal area from the intermediate ring with a volley shot. In the 33rd minute, Trenčian could have increased the lead from Okuliar. After the rebounded puck, however, he hit only a well-standing defender Michalovce.
At the beginning of the final third, the people of Trenčín had the advantage of a power play, but they practically did not endanger Škorvánek. Subsequently, they were on the move to Michalovce. In the densified middle zone, they were very difficult to enforce, despite their physical superiority. There were no chances for long minutes. In the 52nd minute, Šoltés got the puck after Takáč’s pass. In a good position between the circles, the puck did not hit perfectly. The visitors finally managed to score an equalizing goal for 56 minutes into the match. After a short tussle with the defender, Bartánus finally tucked the ball home. And so the match moved into overtime.
At the beginning of the overtime, Beták found himself alone in front of the goalkeeper, but he did not prevail during the finish. A few minutes later, the puck did not sift into the Švec net. The decision was made by the 66th minute. The camel shot from the blue line and the emphatic Bartánus knocked the puck behind Karjalainen’s back.
