It’s been waiting Liverpool to celebrate victory on Anfield. The series of defeats stopped after the Reds caught up Aston Villa.
Liverpool host Villa at Anfield, Saturday (10/4/2021) evening WIB. It took three points to maintain the chance to finish in the top four, Liverpool played aggressively from the early minutes.
But, as before, Liverpool have difficulty scoring goals even though they have many opportunities. Instead, they conceded a goal two minutes from halftime through Ollie Watkins.
Liverpool had equalized through Roberto Firmino in the first half of injury time, but VAR was disallowed. It was only in the second half, Mohamed Salah made the score 1-1 in the 57th minute.
After that Liverpool seemed to have hit a dead end to score, because opportunity after opportunity was always raw. Until finally, Trent Alexander-Arnold broke Emiliano Martinez’s net with a curling shot in the 91st minute!
Liverpool finally won 2-1 while stopping a series of six consecutive defeats at Anfield. The last time Liverpool scored at home was when they were 0-0 against Manchester United in January.
Even talking about victory, Liverpool last beat their guest at Anfield on December 16, Tottenham Hotspur with a score of 2-1. After that Liverpool only won two draws and six defeats from the last eight games on Merseyside.
Liverpool not only difficult to win, but also unable to score goals from open play. Before Salah’s goal, Liverpool went through 769 minutes of open play goalless.
The last open play goal was scored by Sadio Mane in the 12th minute of the match against West Bromwich Albion on 27 December. In 2021, Liverpool only scored once at home, and that was Salah’s penalty when he was beaten by Manchester City 1-4 on February 7.
