Health: Support for effective cancer treatment in Burkina

It is now done! the radiotherapy center was officially inaugurated this Friday, April 09, 2021. Many personalities made the trip to the site to see first-hand the infrastructure, which was delighted by the various players.

It took a total of 14 months for the completion of this work and its equipment. Composed of several sections that are the administrative pole, the consultation pole and that of care, the center aims to facilitate the care and treatment of cancers, whatever their nature in order to reduce the rate of mortality and morbidity due to Cancer.

Explanations from the project manager, HEMA Ouattara Djakaridja, the centers have a unit that neutralizes cancer cells, a cancer treatment unit and an anesthesia operating theater. “We have the particle accelerators; they are devices that send rays to neutralize cancer cells.

In addition to particle accelerators, we have a peri therapy room, which can treat cervical cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer. We also have an operating theater, which is different from the operating theaters of CHR and CHU, ”he explained, specifying that all the different types of cancer are taken care of in the radiotherapy center.

The center will be entirely administered by Burkinabè doctors specialized in the field, however with regard to the assimilation of the various devices the doctors will benefit from assistance in the beginnings.

According to Professor Nayi Zongo, professor of surgical oncology, on average, a minimum budget of 600,000f to 2 million is required for cancer treatment outside, and depending on the case. So for him this center comes to relieve the Burkinabè and in particular those suffering from cancer.

In his words, cancer care is the leading cause of medical evacuation outside the country, which causes suffering for families. “By way of illustration, from January to March of this year, out of a total of 23 patients evacuated, 13 were evacuated for radiotherapy, evening more than half of the patients evacuated” he said.

The wish to have a good maintenance of the center and the devices was formulated by all the beneficiaries and the authorities present.
