Milton Bivar will continue as President of Sport in the 2021-2022 biennium. The election held on the morning of Friday (9) and determined during the night confirmed the permanence of the director, who is a civil engineer and businessman, in the most important position of the club. Milton had 1,023 votes against 985 of the runner-up, Nelo Campos. With the reelection, the expectation for the hiring of Dorival Júnior to replace Jair Ventura in the technical command of the team grows.
In addition to the term of 2019-2020, Bivar had previously chaired the club between 2007 and 2008 and was director of the club on other occasions. Milton is Luciano Bivar’s brother who, in 2013, ran Sport Clube Recife for the sixth term as president-elect (1989/1990, 1997/1998, 1999/2000, 2001 (resigned), 2005/2006 and 2013/2014).
For the 8th consecutive time, the presidential election of Sport was defined in a slam dunk. In all, four applications were entered, a record on Ilha do Retiro – in the soccer from Pernambuco, equaled the number of candidates in the Náutico election in 2013.
The election, however, came after several comings and goings. Previously scheduled for March 5, the election did not take place because of covid-19. Rescheduled for March 18 in the same context, he was suspended again for the health issue.
With Milton’s re-election, the expectation for Dorival Júnior’s arrival at the Recife club increases. Negotiations have already started between the parties, as confirmed by the President to the Sports last Monday (5), pending only the amount that will be paid to the technician in case of hiring.
If confirmed, Dorival returns to command Sport after 15 years of his first spell in the club, in 2006. Now, he assumes a team that won nothing in the current season.
In his last spell at Sport, Dorival won the state championship and went on to Serie B, when he was fired after a 2-0 loss to Brasiliense, away from home, for the 17th round of the competition.
Dorival Júnior’s last work was in the Athletico Paranaense. He left the club in August 2020, after four straight losses in the Brazilian Championship.
