Alone, loneliness, lost – there are many facets. And there are clergymen who become lonely in old age without friends, as there are those who flourish. Bertram Meier emphasizes how important friendships are – and how important it is to cultivate them. He is more concerned about younger priests who are not part of a social network, he says.


In this last episode of the audio format, a conversation about loneliness turns into a conversation about topics currently controversial in the area of ​​the Catholic Church – such as a problematic image of a priest or the ordination of women. In the end, it’s literally about the end: the question of how Meier and Piper feel about assisted suicide. No one should be left alone to die, says Piper. And Meier also says: “As a church, we will do everything imaginable that people do not have to die lonely.”
