The Stellantis concern, created in January this year through the merger of the French group PSA with Fiat Chrysler, expects to sell 400,000 fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars in 2021. This is three times more than realized in 2020, when total sales of electricity cars and hybrids of all brands in the group amount to only 139 thousand cars.
The promise was made by the chairman of the board of directors of Stellantis John Elkan in a letter to the shareholders of the automotive concern, writes Reuters. He notes that it will be possible to achieve the desired indicator by introducing 11 new battery models on the market in 2021.
Stellantis is the world’s fourth-largest carmaker by sales and brings together many brands, including American Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep, Italian Fiat, Alfa-Romeo, Lancia and Maserati, as well as PSA-related Peugeot, Citroen, DS and Opel. So far, however, only the French have made progress in creating electric vehicles.
In particular, they have a compact platform on which all-electric versions are already made, such as the Peugeot 208, Citroen C4 and Opel Corsa. Also, a fully electric version of the new Peugeot 308 hatchback should appear in a few years. It is assumed that the Italians will also take advantage of these technologies.
The US division of Stellantis can be considered the least electrified: Jeep and Chrysler are still proud of only one hybrid at best. The company promises to improve this situation in the coming years and to see all-electric Jeeps.
