Citroën unveils successor to the C5

In the case of the new Citroën, this is a major return by the French carmaker to, needless to say, a stagnant segment of the standard middle class. There, the C5 model fought for the company for a long time, and the new model is considered to succeed it. The car will be presented in all its beauty on Monday.

However, the process of gradually uncovering the successor to the C5 has already begun on the carmaker’s social networks. And apparently it will not be a classic sedan, but a model that will combine an SUV, crossover and a spacious station wagon with its design. In its segment, the car will deviate.

Citroën speaks of the car as a very comfortable and spacious vehicle that will definitely not be mundane in any respect. This can then be seen on the so-called teaser, ie the trailer for the car. There are narrow LED lights on the bow and stern. The rear clearly shows the SUV or crossover style. The front, on the other hand, resembles a sedan. It is inspired by the Cxperience concept.

The name of the car remains a mystery, because Citroën has not yet published it. Internally, engineers refer to it as type E43. The model was expected to be renamed C5, but C6 is also in play. Neither is excluded yet. It is clear that the car is built on the shared corporate platform EMP2. It is also certain that the car will also be created as a plug-in hybrid. So far, other drives can only be speculated.

Finally, the question remains how the middle class model will be sold in Europe, where this segment has long since withdrawn from prominence and is being replaced by SUVs and crossovers. That’s why Citroën will start selling in the autumn, first to China, where similar cars have a better chance of success. In Europe, however, the novelty is to be sold as well.
