What Tjeenk Willink did say in the press conference is that Mark Rutte is ‘not the only bearer’ of the current management style.

It is not entirely clear why Tjeenk Willink has made the statement public. On Thursday, a whole procession of party leaders had already had coffee with him. Those were the smallest parties. A few things will have already been said about Rutte there.

Too late

Friday will be the turn of the big parties. FvD leader Baudet was the first to act at 9 a.m., but was late for his appointment. He did not care, he said on arrival. He called Tjeenk Willink ‘a cartardinal’, a statement he immediately returned to an hour later – after his conversation with the informateur. “I underestimated him a bit, there is more to it than I thought.”

Although his sympathy for Tjeenk Willink has grown, Baudet sees big differences of views. According to him, the informateur wants more debate on small topics, he wants more debate on big topics, such as climate and asylum.

GL leader Jesse Klaver is still not clear about a possible participation in a cabinet with Rutte. “I don’t see how confidence can be restored,” he says repeatedly after his conversation with Tjeenk Willink. There is no clear ‘no’.

Klaver does say that since the breach of trust the left alliance has “only become closer”. “It gets that every day.”

Obstruction

Whether or not Rutte is an obstacle to the formation can probably only be determined later. Tjeenk Willink points out that his assignment consists of two parts. The first part concerns the way in which the cabinet can be formed. The second part asks him to investigate whether and, if so, under what conditions, sufficient trust exists or can be re-established between the parties. He was given three weeks for the complete assignment.
