Marieke normally works as a neurologist at the Amsterdam UMC. But due to the high pressure on the ICs in the hospital, Marieke Visser also started working as an assistant to an IC nurse. She is not the only doctor at the Amsterdam UMC who works as an intensive care nurse supporter. Now that the COVID-ICs are filling up again, there is not enough staff. Getting nurses from other wards just like that is not possible, the normal care must also continue.
Every Wednesday she crosses from the neurology department to the COVID-ic. There she takes off her doctor’s coat and puts on the IC outfit. Marieke assists IC nurse Andrea Esmeijer in protective clothing. This ensures that Andrea can supervise three or four patients instead of one patient.
