‘Different vaccine than AstraZeneca for under 60s’

The Health Council recommends vaccinating people under the age of 60 with a vaccine other than AstraZeneca. The NOS reports that. The council has issued urgent advice on the vaccine at the request of the outgoing Minister of Health Hugo de Jonge.

People who have already had a first shot with the AstraZeneca vaccine will be given the opportunity to get a second shot.

The reason for the urgent advice is reports of the rare combination of thrombosis and a reduced number of platelets after vaccination. Last week, the Netherlands decided to temporarily stop vaccinating people under the age of 60 with AstraZeneca. De Jonge wanted to wait for a new opinion from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) on the vaccine. That came Wednesday.
