The Latvian national airline airBaltic plans to start regular flights on a new route between Riga and Heraklion in Greece from May 15, the company informed.
The airline plans to operate flights between the two cities twice a week.
Flights between Riga and Heraklion will be operated by Airbus A220-300 aircraft. It is estimated that the cheapest ticket in both directions will cost 179 euros.
Martin Gauss, CEO of airBaltic, commented on the new route, saying that the company is optimistic about the upcoming summer season. “If travel is possible as such and the epidemiological situation improves as vaccination capacity increases, demand for flights will resume. We will be ready for that, so in addition to Iraq in Greece, we will announce several new destinations in the coming days. According to the company’s website, airBaltic currently operates flights from Riga to 35 different destinations.
It has already been reported that airBaltic carried a total of 1.34 million passengers last year, which is 73% less than in 2019.
The Latvian state owns 96.14% of the voting rights in the capital of airBaltic, but the financial investor, Danish businessman Lars Tussen, owns Aircraft Leasing 1 – 3.86%.
