Belgium will introduce age limit for vaccination with Astra …

Our country will temporarily introduce an age limit for AstraZeneca vaccines. It is not yet clear whether it will be 55 or 60 years old. That was decided on Wednesday morning at the conference of the Belgian health ministers and is confirmed by various sources to our editorial team.

At the inter-ministerial conference on Wednesday morning it was decided that there will be an age limit for the AstraZeneca vaccine. The question is which limit we will apply. There are still two options on the table: 55 years like France, or 60 years like the Netherlands and Germany. Depending on what the European Medicines Agency will advise at 4 pm, the various health ministers of our country will choose between those two options. The vaccine will therefore no longer be administered to people younger than 55 or 60.

They will communicate that it is a temporary decision. In a meeting Wednesday afternoon, it will still have to be decided what to do with people under the age limit who have already received one shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine and should receive a second one.

The impact on the vaccination strategy will also have to be estimated. It has already been established that we will continue to vaccinate people with underlying disorders above the new age limit with AstraZeneca: the only criterion will be age.
