In April, the construction of the wind farm “Tārgale” in Ventspils region will start

Energy group Utilities A wind farm will start in Tārgale Parish, Ventspils Region, in April Targale construction. In the first phase of the project, infrastructure will be prepared for the installation of 14 wind turbines with a total capacity of 58.8 MW. The wind farm will be put into operation in the autumn of 2022, the company informs Utilities.

In the first phase of construction work, the area will be prepared for the installation of wind turbines, construction of piles and foundations, creation of public roads and cable and earthing networks. Turbine installation works will be performed in the next construction phase.

In 2022, 14 wind turbines with a capacity of 4.2 MW each will be installed in the wind farm. It is planned that a wind farm Targale will generate 155 GWh of electricity per year, which is enough to supply more than 50 thousand households. Wind turbines will be provided by the world’s leading wind turbine manufacturer Vestas. The maximum height of the turbines will reach 152 meters. A special technology will be used in the construction of innovative turbine blades (trailing-edge serration), reducing the total noise level of the blades. In addition, the turbines will be equipped with icing sensors and light detectors.

During the development of the wind farm project, we have taken many measures to not only meet the regulatory standards required for construction, but also to further reduce its impact on the environment and the population. This has been achieved by reducing the number of initial wind turbines from 26 to 14 and improving technological solutions to increase production efficiency and reduce overall noise levels.

Wind farm Targale the main contractor will be the company Nordecon Betoon. Many local suppliers and subcontractors will also be involved in the project implementation. March 2021 Utilities acquired the wind farm development company SIA TCK.

Wind farm Targale The detailed plan in 2011 was approved by Ventspils County Council. The project documentation has been evaluated by the Ventspils Regional Environmental Board and other institutions, which have confirmed that the wind farm will meet regulatory standards, minimizing its impact on the environment. Various experts and institutions were involved in the preparation and evaluation of the project, who have provided an assessment that the operation of the wind farm will not significantly affect the bird and bat population or air traffic safety.

Latvia is lucky with the Daugava, which is a sustainable source of hydropower. This is a great benefit for the country, but wind energy has a significant potential to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy balance. Wind farm Targale will improve Latvia’s energy security, reduce its dependence on energy imports and increase the share of renewable energy, helping to achieve renewable energy targets.

Charged opinion

Ventspils is not in Zemgale, so this project will be implemented. Obviously, in places where there is already experience with wind farms, there is no objection to building them.

Until recently, the Latvian Wind Association complained that the industry in Latvia had not changed for several years. There will be at least some good announcement next year. You need to connect a charging station there.
