A beauty pageant for married women in Sri Lanka has turned into an embarrassing spectacle. Winner Pushpika De Silva had to hand in her crown in a bizarre way a few minutes after she had won the coveted title ‘most beautiful married woman’. The beautiful Sri Lankan would have been divorced, after which the present ‘Miss World’ Caroline Jurie brutally tore the crown from her head.

The current Miss World played a prominent role in the Sri Lankan top event. Shortly after the announcement, she stepped onto the podium and snatched the crown from the winner’s head, causing an unprecedented riot in the world of the Masses. Jurie thought it was her job as Miss World to intervene and proclaimed the number two winner on her own initiative.

In the chaotic hours after the failed beauty pageant, Pushpika De Silva is said to have stated that she is not officially divorced, but lives ‘only’ separated from her husband. This is a very sensitive issue in religious Sri Lanka. She also claims she had to go to hospital with a head injury. Pushpika reportedly filed a complaint against the reigning Miss World. To complete the soap, there would also have been fights behind the scenes.
After the incident – which happened before the eyes of many dignitaries – the organization issued a statement. The beauty pageant rejects Jurie’s action and announces that Pushpika will still be crowned the winner.
