Regional Councilor of France Insoumise, Myriam Martin made a stopover in Tarbes Thursday as part of the campaign for regional and departmental elections. In the afternoon, she went to the site of the future single hospital in Lanne where about fifty people were demonstrating against the project. “It is the reunion of the two hospitals of Tarbes and Lourdes which will result in the elimination of 150 beds and 200 agents, the remoteness of the population and an exorbitant cost in both economic and ecological terms. ‘has never been democratically consulted when a petition has gathered more than 9,000 people “. At the Marcadieu market, in the morning, she presented the three main campaign themes. The elected representative spoke of a social shield, in particular to protect employees from the economic and health crisis by requiring companies that benefit from the Recovery Plan not to cut jobs, to protect young people with the introduction of free meals in the canteen for low-income families or free transport for 18-26 year olds, the precarious and job seekers. Myriam Martin then broached the theme of “ecological bifurcation”, taking the example of the Lannemezan mega-sawmill, “a large useless project when local wood industries would have to be developed”. It also wants to develop “virtuous peasant agriculture” by giving them access to land thanks to the action of the public land agency and by supporting them financially. Finally, she wants more “direct democracy” by associating the citizens by means in particular of the citizens’ initiative referendum.
