an unusual cyclist was passing through the town

One morning last week, a cyclist took a break in the village of Sonnay. Named Christophe Tavernier, aged 52 and living in Orléans, this amateur cyclist has been traveling the world in stages by bike since 1995.

Arborist and traveler around the world

It all started from his home with a loop of 2,000 km in 20 days around Orléans. Christophe is a seasonal worker with an arborist in Orléans, he prunes in winter and picks fruit in summer. His boss does not hesitate to grant him unpaid leave every year, in order to satisfy his passion. This “globe-cyclist” has already traveled over 30 countries such as Iran, Syria, Armenia, Jordan, Thailand, the Philippines, New Zealand, China, Nepal, Cambodia and ‘India. He says he always had his cover as well as his bed in Armenia, Syria and Iran.

15 bicycles used and 200,000 km in the legs for 26 years

For 26 years, this tireless cyclist has covered nearly 200,000 km and used 15 women’s hybrid bikes (easier to ride). Note that Christophe paints all his bikes in fluorescent pink because of the thefts. On the latter, he has everything a frequent traveler needs: food, things to sleep in, not to mention his road map and logbook, but above all no GPS.

For 15 years, Christophe was responsible for the portage of the newspaper The Republic of the Center in Orleans. An accomplished athlete, he has also walked 1,200 km on the GR34 circuit in Brittany. We wish him a safe journey for the rest of his journey. He is currently heading to Strasbourg, then will take the direction of Rennes for a return at the end of May to his home.
