Illinois teacher suspended after Snapchat sex tape leaked to students

An Illinois high school teacher was put on leave for allegedly sharing a homemade sex tape on Snapchat that multiple students watched. Moline High School principal Trista Sanders contacted police in November after they informed her that the teacher posted a video of herself having sex, according to the Quad-City Times.

Several students viewed the video, which could be viewed by anyone who was friends with the teacher on the site, the news outlet reported. A police report obtained by the Quad-City Times does not identify the teacher or children involved in the case, which the State Attorney’s Office has closed without charges being filed.

But the teacher has been put on leave, as the district follows all administrative policies set forth by state law, said school board president Sangeetha Rayapati.

Screenshots of a group chat included with the police report show students discussing the video and debating whether to report the matter to the teacher.

The teacher told investigators a friend called her and frantically urged her to remove the post. The Moline Police Department in Illinois Caraboo of the Moline Police Department

She claimed not to have known what the friend was referring to, but checked her Snapchat account and deleted the post without seeing it, adding that she believed it might have been hacked. Assistant State Attorney Heidi Weller wrote that investigators could not meet the burden of proof that the teacher knowingly or intentionally distributed the pornographic material.

The teacher claimed that the leaked video was the result of her Snapchat account being hacked. He added that “there appears to be no intention of preparing individual students.”
