Earlier this year, Sony officially announced it would suspend support for the PlayStation 3 portion of the PlayStation store in July. Perhaps Sony has turned off some machines a bit too prematurely because gamers are complaining that PS3 content is no longer available for download.
Gamers can buy games via the PS3 store on the console, but downloading will cause an error. Sony has not yet given an explanation and the refund page is also down. Two error messages seem to keep recurring: 80029509 and 80029721. Some people indicate that after adjusting the two-factor authentication it works again, but that does not seem to be the case for everyone.
A possible explanation is that with the expiration of PS3 titles in the future, people want to play as many old games as possible as quickly as possible. The closing of the store for PlayStation 3, as well as PSP and PS Vita will affect more than 2000 digital-only games, 120 exclusives will be lost forever.
