Sunday shopping in Antwerp’s city center was nothing short of dramatic. The Meir and the adjacent shopping streets looked eerily empty. Many large retail chains, such as Primark, even kept their doors completely closed. The self-employed people who did open the door hardly saw any customers. This mainly has to do with shopping by appointment. Since the introduction of this measure, there has been a loss of 70 percent turnover, says the Dutch trade association NSZ.
