Even before the official world premiere, Mercedes’ electric flagship is shown in a series of masked images. And to make matters worse, the silver arrows also bid on some technical information.

Mercedes will present its flagship electric car on April 15, and we should meet the first pieces on the roads during August. The carmaker itself says that it is actually a brand electric member new class S. And when we look at the first technical details, we have no reason to distrust the brand, with such numbers they really go to the highest premium levels.

Mercedes, for example, boasted a performance range of 245 to 385 kW. Such numbers will be interesting in themselves, but the silver arrows are preparing at least one more sporty and stronger variant. In addition, the fresh press release mentions the EQS 450+ version with 568 newton meters of torque and the EQS 580 4Matic with 855 Nm torque. Mercedes also states that the flagship electric car will get rear and all-wheel drive (with an electric motor at the rear, or two at the front and rear). The maximum speed is limited to 210 km / h.

But that’s not the end of it. Mercedes also tapped batteries with a usable capacity of 90 and 107.8 kWh, respectively. The creators talk about new generation batteries with significantly higher energy density, the batteries are said to be 26% more efficient than in electric SUV EQC. The battery management software was developed by the carmaker itself and can be updated wirelessly, so that energy management is constantly up-to-date throughout its life cycle. In addition, engineers thought about sustainability, so for example, the share of cobalt was reduced to only ten percent.
Many smart solutions include, for example, intelligent temperature control, which preheats or cools the batteries while driving. In this way, they try to keep them in the ideal temperature window so that the subsequent quick charge is as fast as possible. Of course, safety was also considered – Mercedes simulated, for example, the overheating of batteries and a car accident, during which it would be seriously damaged. There should be a model for all such situations EQS ready, even thanks to the robust aluminum housing. Arrows trust their batteries and offer a 10-year or 250,000-kilometer warranty, during which their capacity should not drop significantly.
The charging itself is not left behind. EQS supports fast charging with an output of up to 200 kW, with such a powerful charger you should get 300 kilometers in just a quarter of an hour. And now beware, the version with a larger battery has to handle up to 770 kilometers per charge according to the WLTP cycle.

In addition to advanced propulsion and battery technology, sophisticated aerodynamics also help with great numbers. After all, Mercedes boasts an air resistance coefficient of Cd 0.20, which is a world record for a production car, according to the carmaker. In addition to the covered lower parts, aerodynamic wheels (from 19 to 21 inches, the largest wheels can be twenty-two inches) or an optimized rear spoiler and active grille at the front also help.

Well, we are now looking forward to the official premiere of the Mercedes EQS a little more, but mainly to the first personal experience. By the way, the flagship of the silver arrows is part of the ambitious Ambition 2039 plan, which is the year in which Mercedes wants to have a carbon-neutral vehicle fleet. As early as 2030, half of sales should come from electrified cars in the form of plug-in hybrids and electric cars. Well, let’s be surprised …
