Dallas (USA) The unwrapped Super Mario Bros video game from 1986 by the Japanese company Nintendo was auctioned in Dallas for $ 660,000 (CZK 14.6 million). Bloomberg reported on Friday’s auction. According to the Heritage Auctions auction house, this is the highest amount ever for which a video game has ever been auctioned.

The Heritage Auctions auction house said the video game was originally purchased as a Christmas present. Until this year, however, it lay in the original, undamaged packaging in the drawer. “Given that this video game and similar pieces were made in a very short time, finding another copy of the same production line under similar conditions would be tantamount to looking for a drop of water in the ocean,” said video game expert Valarie McLeckie behind the auction house.
Heritage Auctions claims that it is the best-preserved specimen that has been professionally approved for auction. Its final price was several times higher than the $ 114,000 for which the auction house auctioned another unopened video game from 1987 last summer.
