The number of voters at the embassy was over 640. It seems that the number of ballots cast in these elections is higher than in previous years. In 2017, 381 people voted in the mission section of Dimitar Peshev Square, according to CEC data.
Voters said they were motivated to vote out of a desire to see change. Some of those who came said that they had traveled for about two hours to cast their voices.
Evelina Hopson believes that the work of activists from the Bulgarian community this year will lead to more voters. “Many people who did not vote had aspired to vote for the first time in a long time this year,” she said.
“I am very glad that I voted, I voted for something new, better and brighter,” Lina told BNR. According to the CEC, the number of ballots actually submitted in the United States in 2017 was 6,109, with the largest number being for the Chicago area.
