Now 18 players and three coaches are said to be affected by the virus. TSN was the first outlet to report the news. Several of them are said to have symptoms, including vomiting, cramps and severe dehydration. The families of the players and coaches are also said to be sick.
According to ESPN, which quotes a player, some patients had to be rehydrated by intravenous.
Informant Darren Dreger specifies that the next 5 to 7 days will be decisive for the rest of the Canucks’ schedule. This is, after all, the worst outbreak of the season in the NHL.
“Fatigue, dehydration, symptoms are intense,” an agent told ESPN. The virus has hit several members of the team hard. Some are unable to get out of bed. ”
“On behalf of our team, I want to thank all of the fans who stood behind us last week,” Canucks general manager Jim Benning said on the team’s official Twitter account. Our players, coaches and their families appreciate it, and we all hope to get back to good health as soon as possible. Our priority remains everyone’s health, and we are grateful for all the health advice we have received from our doctors, BC authorities, as well as experts from the NHL and the Players’ Association. ”
As of Saturday, 14 players were on the NHL’s COVID protocol list. There are now 16 regulars: Travis Boyd, Jalen Chatfield, Thatcher Demko, Alex Edler, Adam Gaudette, Travis Hamonic, Jayce Hawryluk, Braden Holtby, Bo Horvat, Quinn Hughes, Zack MacEwen, Marc Michaelis, Tyler Motte, Tyler Myers, Antoine Roussel and Brandon Sutter. A group to which must be added two players from the reserve squad and three coaches.
According to several media, several members of the team are infected with the Brazilian variant of COVID, a first in the NHL. It must be said that the Vancouver region has recently become a hotspot for transmission of this variant.
