Zapping Our Mondial Top 10: players at the end of their Serie A contract
Can you tell your story?
I started playing football near my home, at Cosmo Saint-Denis, at the age of 8. I played for three years at this club before joining the Red Star for three seasons as well. I then signed to the Youth of Aubervilliers. Behind, Niort recruited me. Initially, I signed a three-year agreement. As everything went well, I got an aspiring contract. I have been in Niort for five years.
How were you recruited by Niort?
I carried out numerous tests, in Troyes or even Brest. Further tests were planned. But when Niort took an interest in me, the recruiter was concrete. He spotted me during a match against CFFP. He then called my parents and everything was done.
How does the adventure unfold in Niort?
Everything is going well. I arrived at the club in U16, I was directly upgraded with the national U17s. I have always evolved with the greatest. I had a few tough times but overall I got some positives from it. I also got to know the French team during an internship in Spain. It was a great experience. I have been evolving for three seasons with the reserve. At the beginning, I made entries, and for two years, I play regularly.
Have you already trained with the professionals?
Of course. Last season, I participated in many sessions. This season too. I even played a friendly match with them against Cholet. I have shown myself to my advantage. The coach was happy, he encouraged me to continue my efforts.
What type of player are you?
A hard-hitting player who likes to provoke, eliminate players. I’m quick with the ball. I can play in all offensive positions, but I have a little preference for the left lane. I am currently working to improve myself, to become even more rigorous.
You have just participated in CAN U20 Total with Mauritania. How did you learn your selection?
I was at home, in Niort, I received a phone call saying: “Would you be interested in playing the CAN U20 with Mauritania?” “. I did not hesitate for a single second, I directly said “yes”. We discussed with my advisers, Abdoulaye Traoré and Moussa Diabaté, and the DTN of Mauritania. The exchange went well. Then, I went to Mauritania for a first gathering. From there, I was selected for the CAN U20 Total.
How did this CAN Total go?
To begin with, it was a great pride to compete in such a competition. I experienced great emotions but also pressure, because it was taking place in Mauritania. Playing in big stadiums in front of our supporters was magic. Every time we entered the field, we wanted to give everything. For a first, it was good. Unfortunately, we were eliminated earlier than expected. I played all games as a start and scored two goals.
How do you judge the level?
At first it was difficult. African football is not like in Europe. The game is much harder, the opponent comes out very quickly on the ball carrier. During the friendly matches, I was able to take my marks and adapt. Then everything was better.
How do you see your end of the season?
I return to my club, in Niort. I hope to discover the professional world by the end of the season. I want to train regularly with the pros. And I also hope to sign my first professional contract. These are my goals. I think the club followed my performances during the CAN U20 Total, I hope they enjoyed it. I want to continue my momentum. I think I have a lot of room for improvement.
