Temporary Flight Prohibition for Pilots of 2 Airlines Involved in the Incident

Jakarta – Directorate General of Air Transportation Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) took preventive grounding for pilots who had an airplane incident at Sultan Thaha Airport, Jambi and Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta last March. The pilot came from the airline Batik Air and Trigana Water.

“What is prohibited by pilots is related to the incident, not the airlines,” said Director General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Novie Riyanto when contacted, Sunday (4/4/2021).

Meanwhile, the Director of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operations (DKPPU) of the Directorate General of Air Transportation, Dadun Kohar, said that this action was carried out in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia Number PM 46 of 2015. According to him, flight prevention measures against pilots who experience an airplane incident during flight intended to facilitate the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in conducting the inspection.

“In accordance with Article 4 PM 46/2015, for pilots who experience an incident on the flight, preventive measures will be taken to fly, for further inspection will be carried out for 90 (ninety) days from the day the incident occurred,” said Dadun Kohar in a written statement.

Dadun said the flight prevention could be lifted after the Batik Air and Trigana Air pilots in question were declared medically fit at the Aviation Health Center. Not only that, the temporary flight ban can also be lifted after the pilots of the two airlines have completed the after incident recovery training program which is supervised by the Aircraft Operations Inspector of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

“We will remove the preventive grounding if the pilot in question has been declared healthy after carrying out an inspection at the Aviation Health Center. In addition, they must also attend training supervised by the Aircraft Operations Inspector. However, if the results of the examination indicate a violation, then may be subject to administrative sanctions in accordance with the provisions of PM 78/2017 or further examination by Civil Servant investigators of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, “he said.

Dadun appealed to flight operators to ensure the health condition of the aircraft crew on duty and all parties involved in the implementation of air transportation and to continue to prioritize safety, security and services in flight so that incidents and accidents do not occur.

“The health condition of aircraft crews is very important before flying, routine and periodic checks must be carried out properly for safety, security and good service in flight,” he said.

To note, an Airbus A320-241 aircraft with PK-LUT registration operated by Batik Air experienced an incident at Sultan Thaha-Jambi Airport, Saturday (6/3). Then a Boeing B737-4900F aircraft with PK-YSF registration operated by Trigana Air Service also experienced an incident at Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport, Jakarta, Saturday (20/3).
