Dresden – So that the blood banks do not run dry, the DRK blood donation service invited to special appointments on Saturday. Anyone who had blood drawn was surprised with a small Easter present.

Blood donors could be piqued in the Dresden Ratskeller or in the blood donation center on Blasewitzer Strasse.
Bianka Thronicke (65) traditionally came there with daughter Sylke Bär (43) and son Kai (44) from Laußnitz (near Königsbrück).
“For six years we have been going as a family to donate blood at Easter and Christmas,” says Bianka.
The Thronickes were yesterday three of a total of 66 donors in the DRK center, including six first-time donors. 24 came to the town hall (three first-time donors).
“The appointments on Easter Saturday are necessary to ensure the blood supply for Saxon clinics,” said Olivia Köcher (26) from the DRK blood donation service. “Platelets – also called ‘blood platelets’ – can only be kept for four days, for example.”
In addition to the obligatory snack bag, all donors received sausage tongs for the upcoming barbecue season as a little Easter surprise.

The next additional blood donation appointments are on Tuesday (April 6th) in the Dresden Ratskeller and on April 12th in the Parkhotel auf dem Weißen Hirsch (Bautzner Landstrasse 7). Please register in advance at: www.blutspende-nordost.de.
