Suara.com – Researchers reveal that there are other factors that affect the risk of transmission of the corona virus that causes Covid-19, namely type 2 diabetes and obesity.
Quoted from Healthshots, people with type 2 diabetes have a high risk of experiencing severe complications, and can even develop symptomatic infections.
The findings of a new study, conducted by the University of Maryland School of Medicine, used data from the UK Biobank of 500,000 people in the UK over the age of 40.
The researchers examined the factors by testing positive for Covid-19 with the results of people who tested negative.

Researchers found that those who tested positive for Covid-19 were more likely to have obesity and type 2 diabetes. In addition, those who tested negative had good cholesterol levels, so they could have a healthy and normal weight.
The findings published in the journal PLoS ONE, University Of Medicine professor of medicine and researcher Charles Hong revealed that cardiometabolic factors protect a person from Covid-19 infection.
“Cardiometabolic factors are the basis for a person to be protected from Covid-19 infection, while others are more susceptible to infection,” said Charles Hong, MD, PhD.
He said this research was not designed to determine the real factors that caused the transmission of Covid-19.
“This study was not designed to determine what factors actually cause infection. But statistics show the importance of a healthy immune system function to protect against Covid-19,” he added.

The findings suggest several actions can be taken to reduce infectious factors, including a healthy lifestyle.
“As with weight control, it is very important to take steps. Also regular exercise and a diet rich in unsaturated fats, such as olive and avocado peel. That can help,” said Charles Hong.
