Sometimes it is better not to question where certain artists get their inspiration from. The German trailer for “True Fiction – Kill Your Idol” demonstrates this in a gruesome way.

Avery Malone (Sara Garcia) works as a librarian while she dreams of finally getting started as a writer. One day she actually seems to have a chance for the big break when she is hired as an assistant to her idol Caleb Conrad (John Cassini).
Avery is taken to the mysterious author’s remote estate, where she is confronted with an eerie task. She is supposed to take part in a psychological fear experiment that will serve as a source of inspiration for Caleb’s next novel. The situation soon gets out of hand …
In the footsteps of “Misery”
At least since the Stephen King thriller “Misery” it should be known that the supposedly dull existence of a writer can provide the best material for an exciting horror story. “True Fiction” seems to turn King’s scenario around: Here it is the writer who implicates his fan in a brutal psychological game. The trailer for the film already shows that the experiment in the remote house quickly escalates into a bloody cat-and-mouse game.
“True Fiction” was directed by the Canadian director Braden Croft, who previously made the rather unknown horror films “Feed The Gods” and “Hemorrhage”. With John Cassini, who plays the crazy writer, he worked in “True Fiction” with an actor who has appeared several times in dark genre films in his long career, including David Fincher’s “Seven”. Meanwhile, the main actress Sara Garcia is best known from the historical series “Reign”.
