Monica Mæland: – Strikes back

On Saturday, City Councilor Raymond Johansen stood in Oslo once again demands that the measures against import infection must be strengthened. In an interview with Dagbladet, he demanded, among other things, a ban on all unnecessary trips abroad.

Now the Minister of Justice and Emergency Management Monica Mæland strikes back in a statement to Dagbladet.

– We have, and have always had, among Europe’s by far the strictest entry restrictions. We have continuously tightened the rules, whether it has been who is allowed to enter the country, more and more test requirements and stricter quarantine requirements, Mæland says to Dagbladet and continues:

– I have the impression that people by and large comply with measures and recommendations. It is also my impression that there are fewer trips abroad than expected. We have introduced strict test and quarantine requirements for everyone who returns from abroad, but we must settle the status after Easter.

Johansen’s demands

City councilor Johansen said the following in an interview with Dagbladet.

– If we manage to reduce the level of infection in Oslo and Norway once again, then we can not afford to be set back by new imported virus variants. It is extremely important that people limit travel abroad to an absolute minimum, Johansen said and continued:

– First and foremost, we need a requirement for travel, and that all unnecessary trips abroad are prohibited. We also need everyone to test themselves before traveling abroad and after arriving in Norway. It is necessary that we have the greatest possible security against the import of new virus variants.

Biggest fear

The city council leader also said that what he fears most is that new mutated virus variants will come to Norway as a result of import infection.

– I fear that new mutated virus variants will come to Norway as a result of import infection. There may be new variants that are more contagious than the British virus variant and against which the vaccines may not have as good an effect, and that is what I fear most.

Preliminary studies indicate that the vaccines have a good effect against both the British and the South African virus variant, but NIPH states that there are still a number of issues related to the effect of the vaccines against the Brazilian variant.
