An exceptional copy of Murillo, up for auction in New York | Culture and entertainment

An exceptional reproduction of the famous painting “Saint Francis embracing Christ on the cross” by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, painted by the artist himself, will be auctioned by Christie’s on April 22 in New York, where it is estimated that it could be sold for between 1, 2 and 1.8 million dollars.

It is a “ricordo”, as the copies made by painters of an outstanding work are called, which has been analyzed by the art historian Enrique Valdivieso, who has come to the conclusion that it is a reproduction of excellent quality carried out by Murillo and which is in a very good state of conservation.
