Hamburg (dpa / lno) – According to the new recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko), only people over 60 should be vaccinated against Corona with Astrazeneca in Hamburg. Under 60-year-olds, on the other hand, would get the vaccine from Biontech, said the spokesman for the health authority, Martin Helfrich, on Tuesday. “The agreed vaccination appointments take place in any case,” he emphasized.
The federal and state health ministers had previously decided that the Astrazeneca vaccine should generally only be used for people aged 60 and over from Wednesday. Stiko had recommended a corresponding age limit for Astrazeneca.
The basis is currently available data on the occurrence of “rare but very severe thromboembolic side effects”. The committee at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced that the majority of these occurred 4 to 16 days after the vaccination in people under the age of 60. This concerns abnormalities with cases of blood clots (thromboses) in cerebral veins in temporal relation to vaccinations, which were reported mainly in younger women.
