Brutal attack in New York! Shortly before noon on Monday (local time), a woman of Asian descent was the victim of a racist attack. The victim, a 65-year-old woman, was on her way to church when she was attacked by a still unknown man, New York police report.
–
The perpetrator first yelled at and insulted his victim. Eyewitnesses report racist statements. Among other things, the sentence: “F * ck you, you don’t belong here” should have fallen. After a few seconds, the man begins to kick his victim.
–
Witnesses just watch
The surveillance camera in the adjacent house documents the incident. Several witnesses also observe the desert scene. A man in the adjacent building, for example, experienced the attack right from the start. He doesn’t want to help, instead shouts something incomprehensible inside the building.
–
Meanwhile, the attacker kicks the woman over and over again. The 65-year-old lies helpless on the ground. When she tries to straighten up again, the attacker kicks his foot in the skull again.
–
In the meantime, more men, presumably security guards, appear in the entrance area of the house. But they do not intervene either. Instead of helping the woman or detaining the perpetrator, one of the men locks the door to the building.
–
The culprit is still being sought
The attack lasts around half a minute. Then the man lets go of his victim and continues undeterred. The woman remains lying on the ground, seriously injured.
–
The scene caused a storm of outrage on social media. Above all, the lack of help from eyewitnesses has been massively criticized. The New York police have also opened an investigation into the case. It is still unclear why none of the witnesses intervened.
–
The search for the attacker is still ongoing. The police give suspected racism as the motive. New York City Council spokesman Corey Johnson spoke of a “heinous” act.

Again and again attacks against Asians
Attacks against people of Asian descent have been repeated in the United States for months. Just two weeks ago, a rampage rocked the state of Georgia. The assassin Robert Aaron Long (21) shot a total of eight people in massage parlors in and around the city of Atlanta. Six of them were women of Asian voting.
–
The main reason is likely to be the corona virus. Ex-President Donald Trump (74) repeatedly referred to Corona as the “Chinese virus” and thus indirectly blamed the Asians for the pandemic.
An evaluation by “Stop AAPI Hate”, an organization that defends itself against crimes against Asians in the USA, shows: Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, there have been around 19 times more attacks on Asians than before. Between March and December 2020, “Stop AAPI Hate” received 2,808 reports of hatred against Asians. Almost 10 percent of the reports also contain physical violence. (zis)
