COSENZA – “Tonight I’ll make you fly compà! ”,“ You’re flying! “; hence the name of the “Fly” blitz taken at dawn between Cosenza and Rende. The Carabinieri of Cosenza carried out 6 precautionary measures, of which 3 in prison, Pierpaolo Guzzo, Massimo Volpintesta and Candido Perri, two under house arrest, Manuel Forte and Francesco Guzzo and a residence obligation measure for Giuseppe Caruso. The 6 are held responsible, for various reasons, for the crimes of possession and sale of drugs in competition and extortion in competition. The measures are the epilogue of an investigative activity conducted between July and November 2019, concerning a thriving drug dealer activity carried out in the capital Bruzio and in other municipalities of the Cosentino hinterland.
To report the sister of a suspect
The investigation originated from the complaint presented to the Carabinieri station of Cosenza Principale by the sister of one of the suspects. The woman told of the debts incurred by her brother for the supply of drugs. Following the initial investigation activities, it emerged that the victim was involved in one thriving sales business of cocaine, hashish and marijuana together with the other recipients of the precautionary measures.
The carabinieri then outlined the network of drug dealers who, incessantly, with hourly frequency and obsessive dedication, always showing themselves ready to satisfy every request, were able to supply with light and hard drugs, including cocaine and hashish, some market squares in the city and in the province of Cosenza. The investigations then led to findings and seizures against the subjects involved as pusher or contractors, bringing out the depth and accreditation of the same in the eyes of the contractors.
The countless intercepted conversations made it possible to ascertain hundreds of fleeting encounters with sudden exchanges of doses and money. Faced with the evidence of the large amount of evidence collected, many drug addicts heard by the carabinieri, admitted to having bought the drug on several occasions from the suspects, making information absolutely consistent with what emerged from the technical activities regarding the methods of shop, at the places of sale, at the prices charged, also proceeding with the photographic recognition of the drug dealers.
The name of the Blitz Fly and the phrases “you’re flying” … “tomorrow I’ll make you fly and tonight as well”
The suspects used to use cryptic language, negotiate by telephone the price and quantity of the doses to be sold, and in many cases they advertised the effects that the same substance would guarantee on the buyer. One of the suspects referring to the quality of the drug used to say such phrases “Tonight I’ll make you fly compà!”, “You’re flying!”, “As you flew me”, “and then tomorrow and the day after tomorrow I’ll make you fly and tonight as well”. Hence the name of the “Fly” operation referring precisely to the description that some of the arrested used to give to describe the effects of the drug sold.
Involved an 85-year-old elder, the son was dealing
Among the recipients of measurement also a 85enne father of one of the main suspects, who, according to the accusations, would have participated in the drug dealing activity reconstructed by his 42-year-old son. When customers couldn’t find the boy at home, they could easily turn to the parent, which facilitated the business of dealing. The extortion of a stolen watch, involved a Cosentino jeweler
A 45-year-old, according to the investigation, was the main drug supplier for the group. The technical activities also allowed the military to ascertain the commission of further crimes, always accrued in the context of drug dealing, such as a episode of extortion relating to a stolen watch, for the return of which one of the under investigation asked the victim to pay the sum of € 1,000. Specifically, the victim, identified in a employee watchmaker of a renowned jewelry in Cosenza, he paid the sum requested in order to regain possession of the valuable watch that had been entrusted to him for repair. In the course of the activity they were identified 42 buyers and carried out a series of objective checks that have allowed to crystallize the selling activity through the reporting to the Prefecture of Cosenza of 13 contractors, as well as to stop in flagrant crime 2 people and denounce another 3 for the crime of drug dealing.
