Agro-food cooperatives of Andalusia has analyzed how the digitization of the agri-food sector is essential to make life easier for producers and society, while promoting a sector that is more
environmentally friendly through the webinar “Digitization in the agricultural sector“.The general director of Agro-alimentary Cooperatives of Andalusia, Jaime Martínez-Conradi Álamo, in charge of moderating the day, insisted that all members of the sector “must jump on the digitalization bandwagon and take advantage of the aid and lines that exist in this regard through the different administrations or entities” .
The General Director of Industries, Innovation and Food Chain of the Ministry of Agriculture, Cristina de Toro, listed the initiatives that are being carried out by the Ministry in terms of digitization, one of “the main strategic axes of the Ministry as stated in the Strategic Plan for the Improvement of Competitiveness of the sector ”.
The founder of the technology company ec2ce, Ricardo Arjona, detailed to the attendees the current trends, explained how currently there are digital mechanisms to help in irrigation decisions, fertilization and how they already work autonomous tractors or robots that pose different scenarios to the farmer or rancher.
The latest technology
Finally, Manuel Pérez Ruiz, professor at the Higher Technical School of Agronomic Engineering of the University of Seville, showed the different models and machinery that use these intelligent systems in the most varied crops or livestock farms.
Automated ground vehicles, satellites, built-in static networks in the field, drones, irrigation planners, 3D characterizers, selective pruning platforms and weed planners are some of the examples he referred to.
Many of them are already on the market and others are under study by universities or other research centers.
