Simão Sabrosa confirmed this Monday, during the Sport TV program, “Titulares”, that he will return to Benfica next season, starting to take over the formation department of the club.
«Go to the meeting that I answered a month ago. Talks are well underway and we will see what will happen. Everything indicates that it will be for the training », highlighted the former Benfica captain, referring during the program in which, with Ricardo and Chaínho, the performance of the National Team was analyzed and in which, regarding the selection of under-21s, training was also mentioned.
The former international, who said goodbye to the pitch in 2015/16, is now considering a return to Benfica to work with a section of the club he says he loves. «Training is the most important. It is to make the players leave well structured and have references. Today they have the best conditions, they have something that we didn’t have. We keep the same dream, that of getting far. I always loved training, I always had football schools. I think training is the pillar and basis of being able to get a great football professional », he commented.
Simão also highlights the importance of passing values from former players and references from the club to younger players. «In this sense, it is also being prepared as well. They [referências] are important. In training, they know who Rui Costa is as vice president or sports director. At Sporting, Hugo Viana is a sports director but maybe they don’t know who he was as a player. Looking at FC Porto, there is Vítor Baía. I don’t think that can be overlooked. They have to be remembered and be taken as examples », he also said.
