Tennis player Petra Kvitová lost in the eighth finals of the tournament in Miami after almost two and a half hours of fighting 6: 2, 5: 7, 5: 7 with the Ukrainian Elina Svitolinová. Markéta Vondroušová was not enough for Aryna Sabalenková. The Belarusian favorites lost 1: 6 and 2: 6.
World number ten Kvitová did not catch the promising duel against the fifth player in the Svitolin rankings, whose first set was fully under control. The balanced second set was decided by the eleventh game, in which Svitolinová took the Czech tennis player for the first time in the match and then confirmed the advantage during her own service.
The 26-year-old Ukrainian woman transferred the well-being to the decisive set, in which she took Kvitová’s service five years older twice and led 3: 0 and 40:15. At that moment, the Czech player took a breath to turn around and turned the score to 4: 3 from an almost hopeless situation.
However, Kvitová did not maintain her psychological advantage, at 4: 5 she still managed to avert Svitolin’s service to win the match, but two games later at 5: 6, the Ukrainian woman did not let the procedure be taken again during her own pass.
Kvitová, who won the previous two duels in Miami without losing the set, failed in Florida to follow up on the quarterfinal participation from the last year of the tournament in 2019. Svitolin in the tenth mutual duel lost for the third time.
The twentieth player in the ranking, Vondroušová, lost to the world number eight Sabalenková in 64 minutes. In each set, the Czech tennis player lost service twice and did not use any of the three breakballs herself. The tournament thus continues without Czech participation.
