There are “hidden green tips for excursions” to be discovered, a total of eleven can be found in the brochure, which is available now. Ponds, storage areas, picnic areas, observation towers and more are among them, the Viennese green space is far more varied than it might seem at first glance. The opportunities for exciting hours outdoors are there, as well as the time, even or especially when the Easter holidays are restricted by a lockdown from Thursday. Because all eleven goals have one thing in common: They are off the beaten path.
Explore Bach in the Dehnepark
One of these insider tips is the Dehnepark recreation area in Penzing. The natural Dehnepark pond and the protected plane tree in the heart of the park add to the feel-good factor. The camp and picnic meadows invite you to relax and unwind. Younger visitors can explore a small stream or try out their climbing skills. There is a forest playground and a forest pavilion. For hikers, the Dehnepark is an interesting stop on Stadtwanderweg 4.
“With its almost five hectares, it is a real insider tip and also very easily accessible to the public,” says Climate Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky about the recreation area in his home district. The Dehnepark is located between Rosentalgasse and Heschweg and can be reached publicly by bus: with the 47A (Exit “An der Niederhaid”), the 47B (exit “Wahlberggasse”) and the 48A (end station “Baumgartner Höhe”) you are quickly in the countryside and reach the recreation area in a few minutes on foot.
Green relaxation space instead of overcrowded hotspots
To break new ground and visit less frequented places: Especially in times of a pandemic, this is probably a suitable recipe for breathing in the open air: “This relieves particularly popular hotspots in our city and helps to see Vienna from a completely different perspective to discover ”, says Czernohorszky. The brochure with the city’s eleven tips for excursions can be downloaded from the Internet. It is now also available in the city information center and at the city’s information points in the Lainzer Tiergarten and in the wien-lobAU national park center.
