Employee ‘The crown’ went undercover at Buckingham Palace

And whether he kept his eyes peeled. The production designer of the acclaimed Netflix series The crown went on a tour of Buckingham Palace as a tourist after his official request to go and see was rejected by the palace.

66-year-old production designer Martin Childs secretly researched the layout and interior of the British palace. In this way he was able to recreate fifteen film locations. “When I walked around there, I mainly thought about how we could turn the rooms into spaces, where the action could take place. Where people could have conversations. And how we would then ensure that the viewer remained interested ”, says Childs.

He tried to get along as much as possible by peeking through one room to the other. Unfortunately for him, the Queen’s and her family’s private rooms were not open to the public. Childs used information from other sources to compile a floor plan anyway.
