Almost Italy Neutralized Bulgaria

Jakarta

Italy continues its positive trend with a win over Bulgaria. However, the situation is admittedly different if there is no opening goal from the penalty spot.

Italy won 2-0 over Bulgaria in Vasil Levski, Monday (29/3/2021) World Cup qualification 2022. Andrea Belotti’s first goal from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute was followed by Manuel Locatelli in the 82nd minute.

The Azzurri appeared very dominant, recording 22 shots with six hitting the target plus one hitting the post. Meanwhile, Bulgaria only had three experiments with one that led to the goal.

But the coach of the Italian national team Roberto Mancini dismissed the notion this was an easy win for his foster children. Without Belotti’s penalty goal, the match could have ended without a winner.

“All the games are difficult, especially against teams like Bulgaria who pile up players at the back and wait for the counter-attack. Until you find a way out, there are no gaps and it is very difficult,” he told RAI Sport quoted Football Italia.

“We are at a point in the season where the players are a little tired. We didn’t allow any threats in the first half, and only gave chances to opponents in the second half after throwing away a number of chances to add to the lead.”

“As I said, there is no such thing as an easy match. The other teams don’t give you a gap and instead, just try to neutralize you. Until you get the opener it was a dead end,” he said.
