Despite the ups and downs of ski centers over the past year, traffic was very present during the season, due to skiers on weekdays.
In particular, ski centers have had to deal with much lower income due to health restrictions and the ban on catering inside chalets.
But the various ski resorts in Quebec have nevertheless noticed an increase in ridership during the week, certainly explained by the many workers who were able to do work at home.
“There are a lot of people who have made the switch to weekday skiing, so the traffic was still really good. Obviously, in terms of ski schools and restaurants, we can envisage a big drop in income due to the closures, ”said Josée Cusson, Director of Communications and Marketing for the Association des stations de ski du Québec. , interviewed on LCN, Sunday.
Profits?
Even if around 40 ski resorts are still open until Easter break, it would still be surprising to see them making a profit this season.
“We will have some variances at the level of the stations which are a plus for the destinations, obviously because of the tourists who were not there because of the pandemic,” said Josée Cusson.
The emergency wage subsidy has, however, greatly helped the various ski centers this year.
“A special thank you to Minister Joly for defending our sector of activity. Obviously, we felt privileged to be able to be in operation all season long, but it is sure that there will be impacts in terms of income, ”recalled the Director of Communications and Marketing of the Association des Quebec ski resorts.
