Augsburg panthers fish two points on the Iserlohner Seilersee

After the win against Krefeld during the week, the Augsburg Panthers were able to improve in Iserlohn. After an interesting ice hockey game, they got the upper hand after a penalty shootout and scored two important points.

For the Augsburg Panthers, the fight for a place in the playoffs in Iserlohn continued. The Sauerlanders have always been an unpleasant opponent, and this season they have also played a good role in the northern group. The AEV, on the other hand, has to stretch in order to be able to participate in the best time of the ice hockey season. The home win against tired and overwhelmed Krefeld Pinguine was therefore a compulsory task, with the Roosters now had to be refined. But the roosters were also victorious recently and had made people sit up and take notice with a victory over Munich.

A varied start

But it was the guests from Swabia who were able to set the first mark. Trevelyan had stolen the disc from an Iserlohn player behind whose goal McClure was able to take the early lead (5th). This leadership lasted until Augsburg’s LeBlanc had to take a seat on the penalty bench. The hosts did not miss the opportunity to get to the goal with a man. After all, it was Aubin who thundered the disc between Keller’s legs over the goal line (12th). It was a varied third that should see an increase after the break.

IEC keeper Jenike strong as a bear

The puck had just been thrown in when it was already in the AEV’s goal net. Bailey had just thrown him hard in the corner, Keller could only look. But the heads of the Swabians stayed up, pushing for an equalization, which did not (yet) want to fall. The strong Jenike in the IEC box saved his team again and again with strong actions. In the 30th minute of the game, however, he was also beaten again. Abbott had served Holzmann, who was allowed to push the ball to make it 2-2 relatively unrestricted. But because three Augsburgers could not get hold of Whitney, the Roosters were back in front a little later.

Augsburg throws everything forward

The Panthers had to go into the final third, but there was still enough time to score points at the Seilersee. When IEC attacker Bailey had to watch ten minutes before the end, Augsburg would have had the opportunity to equalize again. Jenike, however, prevented the guests from being able to improve their weak outnumbered quota a little. AEV coach Tuomie tried everything, taking Keller off the ice a minute and a half before the final siren in favor of a field player. He was rewarded for an action that was rather rare for him. 23 seconds before the end of regular time, Hafenrichter let the disc bounce into the goal as a deserved compensation. One point was now certain for the red-green-white. Since the subsequent overtime brought no decision, the penalty shootout had to bring the winner. While Iserlohn couldn’t overcome Keller, McClure and Abbot scored for the AEV. The additional point went to the account of the guys from Schleifgraben, who now want to add up to the Kölner Haie at home on Sunday.
