Quebecer Abraham Toro will not be able to assert himself in the last game of the Houston Astros in the Grapefruit League since he must follow the protocol related to the health and safety of the players.
That’s what team manager Dusty Baker confirmed on Sunday morning. Toro is currently in the fight for one of the last regular positions with the Texas roster.
Toro appeared in 19 games during training camp, a high for the team. He maintained a batting average of .269. He notably hit four doubles.
Garrett Stubbs will also have to go through the protocol. Outfielder Myles Straw had already been withdrawn from the roster for this reason on Saturday.
The Astros will play one final preseason game Monday afternoon against the Washington Nationals and start the regular season Thursday, visiting the Oakland Athletics.
