NEW YORK – A drunken fight outside a Queens bar early Saturday morning resulted in the death of a 55-year-old man and a firefighter was arrested in connection with his death, police said.
The authorities responded to the business Terrace Inn Bar, around 4:00 am, located at 05-22 Francis Lewis Boulevard in Queens, after receiving a call to 9-1-1. When they arrived, officers found the fatality lying on the pavement “with trauma to the back of the head,” the New York City Police Department said Saturday.
Doctors transported the man to Flushing Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The uniformed officer identified the victim Saturday afternoon as Devin Deegan, a 55-year-old man from Queens. The official cause of his death has yet to be revealed.
According to Police Justin Deieso, 35, was arrested and charged with assault.
Contact information for Deieso’s attorney was not immediately known.
Likewise, police sources confirm that Deieso is a member of the city’s Fire Department (FDNY). According to the authorities, both men allegedly got into a fight while under the influence of alcohol when the victim was punched and hit his head on the ground.
The bar has so far not commented on the incendant.
For its part, the FDNY said Saturday afternoon that the firefighter is currently suspended without pay and that they are also investigating the incident. According to the department, Justin Deieso has served 7 years and works in Brooklyn.
The case remains under investigation. The victim’s relationship to the accused and the cause of the fight are unknown.
