Tamponi-Lazio case: convictions and questions pending

The sentence of the FIGC Tribunal is not an acquittal, but given the gravity of the alleged violations it has the unpleasant flavor of contradiction. And for President Gravina, having a director with a total of ten and a half months of inhibition is not the best

The sentence of the Court of the Football Association is not an acquittal, it is a sentence. Let’s start from this fact, otherwise there is the risk of confusion, which in Italian football is always a widespread practice. President Lotito was disqualified for seven months. One year to the two social doctors, Pulcini and Rodia, who in the end are the ones who come out worse from the tampons affair. In short, just enough to certify that the club not only did not respect the legal protocols, but also put the health of Lazio players and that of opposing players at risk. Exactly what the Gazzetta dello Sport has supported and documented with its journalistic investigation from the beginning. The prosecutor Chinè and judge Mastrocola, in essence, distinguished the responsibilities of the club from those of the team, which for them simply suffered the guilty behavior of doctors and president.

Of course, it should be emphasized that the request of the federal prosecutor, the sentence itself, are not at all consistent with the voluminous accusatory structure ascertained by Chinè during the investigations. If the violations were those disputed at the outset, so numerous and so serious, the conclusion has the unpleasant flavor of contradiction, to put it mildly. With seven months Lotito can continue, coincidentally, to hold federal offices. Although we are convinced that for President Gravina having a director with a total of ten and a half months of inhibition in the highest federal body is not the best. It is true that we have seen worse in football, but we were frankly hoping to see better. Let’s say that renewal is struggling to establish itself. The penalty remains. It will certainly be a deterrent for those hypothetical managers of our football tempted to take some dangerous shortcuts. Because health is not a joke.
